That grounds, relaxes, and inspires you to climb the one- and two-thousand meter peaks in the region, so that you can also owi schaugn — look down.

Winter

 ICE SKATING

ICE SKATING

Gfroarn / Definition: frozen. Examples: ganz zuagfroarn (frozen over). When the water temperature sinks below 0 °C, the water is quickly gfroarn, which is brilliant, because it’s too cold to jump in anyhow. We’d much rather glide across across the mirror-smooth surface faster than lighting on our blades. Yipee!

Our region’s lakes are just as beloved as a destination in the winter just as they are in the summer. When the lakes are frozen, a nice round of ice skating or Bavarian curling is called for. There’s also an indoor ice rike in nearby Inzell.

 SLEDDING

SLEDDING

Rodln / Definition: sledding. Examples: Rodler (sledder). Sledding is for the kids, you say. Yes, but not only for them — try it out again yourself ! Get up on the wooded sled and down that mountain. Want to bet that it will be just as fun for grown up kids?

There are speedy runs around Ruhpolding in the Unternberg natural sled park, where the nearly one-kilometer long stretch will turn you into a sledding pro. The snowtubing track on Westernberg mountain also promises hours of amusement. You hurtle down the mountain on a red rubber inner tube and rde comfortably back up on a skilift.

 CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING

Koid / Definition: cold. Examples: de koide Jahreszeit (the cold time of year), sakrisch koide (awfully cold). When it gets cold outside, one simply has to think warm thoughts — or move more. Perhaps by cross-country skiing? If you enjoy the beauty of nature and the magnificent snow, it will certainly warm your heart.

Cross-country skiiers can carve their own paths through the snow, or take a relaxed glide in the tracks, for example in Inzell, Ruhpolding, and Hammer, only a few minutes from GUT EDERMANN by car.

Rock Climbing

Kraxln / Definition: rock climbing. Examples: Gekraxel (climbery, the act of climbing), Kraxler (rock climber). When you go kraxln, you’ll need mountain shoes, a light backpack, weatherproof clothing, climbing equipment, and a rock impact protection helmet. Then you’re ready to hit the mountains with a guide or on your own!

The mountaineering route in Piding on the Hochstaufen is a challenge for all sorts of mountain climbers. Caution: This tour is only suited for experienced and capable mountain climbers! The steep and partly outwardly protruding mountaineering route reaches the difficulty degree “D”. But once you’ve arrived at the top, you’ll be rewarded for your sweat and tears on the way up!

 Cycling

Cycling

Radler / Meaning: 1) bicyclist 2) mixed beer drink. Examples: Radltour (bike tour), Radler-Hoibe (half-liter of beer mixed with lemonade), Radler-Mass (liter of beer mixed with lemonade). Whether you cycle at a leisurely pace, mountainbike, or ride an e-bike, you’re well served in and around Rupertiwinkel. At the bike tour’s destination, everyone meets back up in the beer garden or guesthouse over a nice Radler-Hoibe.

 HIKING

HIKING

Hatscher / Definition: a long foot march. Examples: hatschen. Kenn Sie das? (Are you fit your a long march?) At the beginning of a hike, one always asks oneself: Why, why do I do this to myself? But as soon as they’ve hiked themselves warm, are taking in the scenic views, and perhaps catch the first glimpses of their alpine meadow destinations, they know why again!

One of the most impressive mountain lodges in the region, and in fact our favourite, is the Stoißer Alm on Teisenberg mountain. This pleasant lodge at around 4,000 feet of altitude is an El Dorado for hikers and bikers, and promises a spectacular view from Chiemsee lake to the Salzburg alps.

 TENNIS

TENNIS

Gwinna / Definition: to win. Examples: s’Spui gwinna (to win the game), A bisserl wos geht allaweil, ein bisschen was geht immer (I’m always game for a short match). It’s music to your ears: game, set, and match. Everyone wants to gwinna. Or why do you play tennis?

Friends of the fuzzy little yellow ball can get right down to it in Teisendorf, which boasts six sand courts and a practice wall. Afterwards you can celebrate your victory in the tennis pub.

 SWIMMING

SWIMMING

Bodhosn / Definition: bathing suit. You shouldn’t forget your Bodhosn, not in Wannsee and particularly not in Rupertiwinkel. Pack your swimsuit for summer fun, whether with or without your little sister.

We particularly recommend the swimming beaches at Waginger See. You can splash into just as much fun at Tachinger See, Abstdorfer See, and Höglwörther See just a stone’s throw from your doorstep. Right nearby in Teisendorf, a pleasant outdoor family swimming pool with mountain view calls your name.

 FISHING

FISHING

A guada Fang / Definition: a good catch. Examples: Fangglück (lucky catch). Sit at ease, let the landscape captivate you, think about yourself and life — these are all important parts of a successful fishing expedition. If you even make a guadn Fang, alle the better!

Berchtesgadener Land is a real insider tip for fly fishers. The waters in Berchtesgaden National Park count among the cleanest in all of Germany. With some luck, river and rainbow trout, charrs, and graylings will bite here.

 Golf

Golf

Grean / Definition: green. Examples: nuas ins Greane (out onto the green). Of course, the colour green dominates every golf course. It’s even more agreeable when natural water features and a magnificent mountain backdrop greet the golfer’s eye from all directions.

Located only a few minutes from Teisendorf by car in the mildly hilly terrain of Weng is the spacious Berchtesgadener Land golf course. This demanding par 27, an 18-hole master’s golf course, is guaranteed to keep things interesting with its well-placed bunkers, assorted water hazards, and ponds.

REGIONAL ATTRACTIONS

Gmoa / Definition: village community. Examples: Gmoablattl (small-town newspaper). In Teisendorf as in Rupertiwinkel, traditional customs are very much alive. Young and old meet in traditional clubs where they pass on Bavarian culture and their native way of life. Festivals, costumed parades, and processions all belong to the life of the Gmoa. The dates of the festivals and celebrations are best to be found in the Gmoablattl. The annual Leonard Ride on Pentecost is known as a regional cultural high point. Resplendently adorned horses and buggies parade through Holzhausen in honour of Saint Leonard of Noblac, the patron saint of agricultural animals. The Almabtrieb, the annual festival at the end of September in which the cows and dairy maids return from their alpine pastures into the valleys, is similarly spectacular. The Almabtrieb across Königsee lake is unique — the cattle is transported across the lake in special boats. Another highlight in the region’s cultural calendar is the Salzburger theatre festival with its famous performance of “Jedermann” on the Domplatz square.

Schaug amoi! / Definition: check it out! (imperative). Examples: Do schaugst! (Caught you looking!). Holiday always means doing something new and widening one’s horizons, so come along and schaugn’s amoi — take a look! Here in our neighbourhood, the attractions are small but beautiful. Travel 1500 years back in time, and visit the Bavarian Museum in Waging by the lake, or have a look at a mammoth skeleton in the Siegsdorf Natural History Museum. Take in the charm of the old steam engines at the Freilassing World of Locomotives, or learn about 700 years of iron mining at the foot of Teisenberg mountain in the Achthal Mining Museum right in Teisendorf.
